LOS ANGELES, CA (May 2, 2019) – Athletes and active lifestyle fans will soon have a new way to explore and celebrate cannabis as part of their evolving wellness routine. The all-new Civilized Games (formerly The 420 Games) is kicking off a North American tour with an action-packed event in Venice Beach, California. On June 22, thousands of ‘cannathletes’ and spectators will congregate at the Venice Skatepark to take in basketball, skateboarding, and BMX competitions, along with the event’s signature 4.20 mile run. The Civilized Games will also play host to a wide range of learning and experiential opportunities, including a yoga and meditation dome, access to cannabis experts and much more.

“It’s amazing to see how athletes of all levels are embracing cannabis as part of their health and fitness routines, and how so many more people are interested in exploring cannabis as an option for their own personal wellness goals,” says Derek Riedle, Publisher of Civilized. “We’re building more than just a sporting event with the Games; we’re building a ‘cannathelete’ community. We can’t wait to get the Civilized Games started here in Venice Beach.”

Originally created in 2014 as a way to showcase how athletes use cannabis as part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle, the Games have become a popular event for amateur and professional athletes alike, attracting more than 20,000 ‘cannatheletes’ and counting. Past events have featured NFL great Ricky Williams, pro skateboarding and X Games gold medal winner Bucky Lasek, NBA star Al Harrington and UFC great Bas Rutten.

“The Venice Beach boardwalk is a truly electric place, known for welcoming trailblazers, trend-setters and forward-thinkers with open arms. We couldn’t think of a more ideal place to kick off the Civilized Games,” says Jim McAlpine, The 420 Games Founder and cannabis influencer. “Now, more than ever, the world needs an event like this that embraces people of all stripes and encourages them to find their own path to health, wellness and authenticity.”

Upcoming stops for the Civilized Games include San Francisco and Sacramento in the fall. More North American dates will be announced in the coming months.

Registration is now open for the June 22 event at www.civilizedgames.com. The event is free for spectators.
